CHARITY SUPPORT

Hamilton Central Churches Drop-in Centre

Cadzow has played a part in feeding the homeless in Hamilton since the need was addressed in 1992, with soup and sandwiches being dispensed outside what used to be Baird’s Department Store.

Meals are now provided in a Portacabin, situated in Beckford Street.

The Centre is open every evening from 7.30pm ‘til 9.00pm. Those who are homeless, jobless, or needy in some way, can find a warm welcome and a friendly face here every day of the week, every week of the year, Christmas Day included. The week before Christmas a full Christmas Dinner is served with all the trimmings…..and a gift bag filled with toiletries and warm clothing such as hats, gloves and socks, is presented to every visitor.

Visitors can choose items of clothing or bedding from a well-stocked clothing store, or take advantage of the shower and clothes-washing facilities.

It takes many volunteers to keep the Centre open every day, and new volunteers are always welcome.

Donations of food, clothing and cash are also very welcome.

CHRISTIAN AID “We believe in life before death”.

Christian Aid’s essential purpose is to expose the scandal of poverty

  • 3 billion people live in extreme poverty.
  • 850 million people will go to bed hungry tonight
  • 10 million children will die this year before their 5th birthday

At Cadzow we work tirelessly in Christian Aid Week to support the Christian Aid projects focussed each year at this time.

In 2013 , as a congregation, we raised £2,537 by doing door to door collections and can collections. Many of the congregation are involved in one way or another to support Christian Aid- whose work is dear to our hearts.

Against the odds:

  • Christian Aid supports poor communities to build secure lives free from hunger.
  • Christian Aid is working hard to respond to storms and other disasters, faster.
  • Christian Aid funds educational programmes to fight the stigma and slow the spread of HIV.
  • Christian Aid supports families torn apart by war.
  • In the face of trade policies that cost the developing world US$700billion a year, Christian Aid doggedly campaigns for change.
